Picture
Unlike sliding windows,
picture windows do not open and are used to provide more
light or to simply provide a view of the scenery.
They are typically installed in difficult-to-reach areas allow for light to get in.
Single Hung
The bottom sash of a single-hung window slides upward to open and
let air flow through. Top sash is secured. Single-hung windows are an ideal option for
rooms facing pathways, porches, or patios since they open and close without sticking out.
Slider
For rooms facing pathways,
porches, or patios, horizontal sliders are a great option.
Compared to a crank-style window, some people find these
windows easier to open. They are ideal for openings in which the width is greater than the height.
Casement
Casement windows have side hinges and swing open like doors.
Because a casement window lacks a rail, unlike double-hung or sliding windows,
it gives the appearance of a picture window.
These are harder to open, since most casement windows have a hand crank.
A casement window with a crank might be the ideal answer if you're placing windows over a sink,
countertop, or appliance.
